I am an artist based on Treaty 6 territory with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta (visual art). Blending eco-sensibilities with a dash of whimsy, my work has been shown at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Alberta Council for Ukrainian Arts, Mile Zero Dance, hcma Architecture, Alberta Craft Council, Bleeding Heart Art Space, and more.
I grew up in Grande Prairie, Alberta and flapped myself out of “the nest” at the tender age of 19 with dreams of becoming a Ukrainian Dance Instructor in Calgary. When that didn’t pan out, I moved to Edmonton, and worked odd jobs for a couple of years. After a particularly harrowing night shift at the Hostel near Whyte avenue I decided there must be more to life than THAT, so on a whim and a prayer I applied for the Fine Arts program at the University of Alberta. I was not initially accepted, but eventually got in on a cancellation 10 days before the start of the school year - the rest is History! 14 years later I am loving Edmonton and living in a housing cooperative with 2 cats, a human, 7 aquatic snails, 2 rubbermaid totes full of worms, and a spider named Pookie who lives behind my dryer.
Over the past 7 years I have largely been self-employed as an artist & interior painter (who creates the occasional mural/custom furniture commission). My artistic practice usually includes some element of upcycling, or reframing of discarded items to give them a new poetic context and reflect tales of the time we are living through. My creative fixations are squirrelly and diverse - I often find myself working with crochet, painting, installation, educational dioramas, garment construction, poetry, printmaking, creative essays, performance, wacky food combinations, and interspecies durational performances via vermicomposting. My work has exhibited at locales such as the the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, Latitude 53, Harcourt House, HCMA architecture, the Works Festival, the Alberta Craft Council, and most frequently, the crawlspace under my stairs.
